You may not have even heard it at all.

But this little phrase is making a big impact in our city. It could help shape our development for decades to come. And how is it changing our city today?

An Opportunity Zone is an economically-distressed community where private investments, under certain conditions, may be eligible for capital gain tax incentives.

Milwaukee was inspired by this initiative and those goals remained paramount for Common Council President Ashanti Hamilton. Clay Arsenal, Northeast and Upper Albany neighborhoods – making Hartford the first City in Connecticut to take part in this competitive initiative created by President Barack Obama. Both organizations received the maximum award of $80000. For Jacobsville residents, this short ride is the start of something new.
